The Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton will be the deciding race for the Canadian Triple Crown.
The Canadian Triple Crown will be presented in Edmonton after the Champ Car race to the team of drivers with the best combined average over the three Canadian races: Grand Prix of Mont-Tremblant, Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto and the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton.
Will Power and Simon Pagenaud announced the news that Canada now has a competition to call its own on June 27th. All nine teams in the Champ Car Series will compete for the Canadian Triple Crown and the team with the best combined average finish will take the title for their team.
The winning team will receive an Inuit Stone Carving, a part of the ancient past of the native Canadian Inuit tribe. In addition, the winning team will be treated to an array of Canadian-themed rewards.
"We have a very strong base of very loyal Champ Car fans throughout the entire country and the Canadian Triple Crown will add another interesting element to the media coverage and fan interest," says Champ Car President & CEO, Steve Johnson.
Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton presents a winning music line-up for its fans Once the sounds of the high speed race cars have faded away on the 2007 Grand Prix of Edmonton weekend, Champ Car fans can remove their ear plugs and turn their attention to sounds of a different kind -- classic rock music.
Headlining the entertainment lineup for the Champ Car World Series event, July 20-22, are the internationally popular Scottish-based rock group Nazareth, led by legendary vocalist Pete McCaffery. Opening for them on Saturday, July 21, will be the rock group Headpins, from British Columbia.
Rounding out a hugely entertaining lineup are Canadian classic rockers and Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame members, Kenny Shields and Streetheart (Friday July 20), and the alternative rock group 54-40 (Sunday, July 22) regarded as being among Canada's preeminent ambassadors of modern rock. All headliners will be performing on the Turn One Stage near Gates 2 and 3 along with a country music band playing on the Winner's Circle Stage while the Turn One Stage will feature a local rock band.
July 11, 2007 The New Urban Lounge otherwise known as The One on Whyte (10544 Whyte Avenue), is presenting Battle of the Bands, and the runner up will open for Kenny Shields and Streetheart on the Turn One Stage on Friday, with the winner opening for 54-40 on Sunday.
