#40 - TECATE/QUAKER STATE/PATRICK RACING FORD-COSWORTH

Adrian Fernandez, who extended his streak of points paying finishes to 11 with a seventh place showing two weeks ago in Houston, is tied for fourth with Michael Andretti in the FedEx Championship Series standings with 127 points (Andretti holds the tie-breaker by virtue of more victories). Fernandez is just seven points out of second place and 26 points out of first. He has placed in the top-10 in nine of his last 11 races while compiling six top-six finishes in his last nine races with four top five showings and three podiums. Fernandez has tallied points in 15 of his last 16 starts. He has finished 15 of 18 races this year (the most of any driver) each time in the points. Fernandez has 13 top-10 showings including six top-five finishes with four podium appearances and one win (Rio - tied for sixth). He is second in miles completed (3685.017), third in laps completed (2292) and tenth in laps led (73).

* Fernandez, 35, a native of Mexico, now resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona. He is in his eighth CART season and third with Patrick Racing. Fernandez has six career CART victories and one pole (Michigan oval in 1998)

* The 2000 Honda Indy 300 will be Fernandez' 124th CART start.

* This will be the seventh time Fernandez has raced on the streets of Surfers Paradise. In his six previous races his best qualifying position is fourth in 1994 and his best finish is third last year.

* Since joining Patrick Racing in 1998, Fernandez has enjoyed his two best CART seasons. He finished sixth in the standings last year with 140 points despite missing four races with an injury. He scored 11 top-six finishes, including two victories (Japan and Fontana). His best season was 1998 when he finished fourth in the standings with 14 top-10 placements including eight top-five showings and two victories`(Japan and Mid-Ohio).

ADRIAN FERNANDEZ QUOTES:

"The Tecate/Quaker State/Patrick Racing team has been very consistent all season. We had some bad luck during the beginning of the season, but have come on strong to put ourselves in a position to challenge for the championship. We are probably going to have to win at least one of the two remaining races and we are going to have to get some help from the people in front of us to take the title, but with the way this season has gone...anything is possible."

"I love coming to Surfers Paradise. This is the best race in the series as far as the promotion and excitement. I have had some good races here, especially the last two years. Hopefully, we can finish on the podium or even win the race this time around and make the championship fight even tighter than it already is."

PATRICK RACING TEAM NOTES
DRIVER: ROBERTO MORENO
#20 - VISTEON/PATRICK RACING FORD-COSWORTH

Roberto Moreno is third in the FedEx Championship Series standings with 131 points. He is three points out of second place and 22 points out of first. Moreno, who has been among the points leaders all season, has finished in the top-10 in four of his last seven races and placed in the points six times. He has finished 13 of 18 races this year, each time in the points with 11 top-10 showings including seven top five finishes and five podium appearances with one victory. Moreno is third in miles completed (3631.866), fourth in laps completed (2283) and fifth in laps led (138).

* Moreno, 41, a native of Brazil, now resides in Weston, Florida. He is in his seventh CART season, but is driving full-time for just the third time. This is his first season with Patrick Racing. Moreno has one career CART pole (Cleveland '00) and one career CART victory (Cleveland '00)

* Moreno's last major win was in Birmingham, England in 1988. His last major Championship was the Intercontinental Formula 3000 title also in 1988.

*The 2000 Honda Indy 300 will be Moreno's 80th CART start.

*This will be the first time Moreno has raced CART cars on the streets of Surfers Paradise. He ran the Formula Atlantic Australian Grand Prix from 1981-1984 winning three times ('81, '83 and '84).

*Previously known as "Super-sub" for his ability to take over for injured drivers and produce at a very high level, Moreno is coming off a highly productive 1999 season. He scored points in eight of 13 starts, substituting for Mark Blundell and Christian Fittipalidi, and placed a CART career best 14th in the standings with 58 points.

ROBERTO MORENO QUOTES:

"The Visteon/Patrick Racing team has done a great job all year. We are still in the hunt for the championship, but we have our work cut out for us. We are going to have to finish very strong in both the remaining races and that means, at least in Australia, that we are going to have to qualify toward the front. The fact that I have not competed on either of the tracks we run on in the final two races will make things a little more difficult, especially for qualifying, but with the experience of the Visteon/Patrick Racing crew and some help from my teammate (Adrian Fernandez), we should be okay."

"I love coming to Australia. Throughout my career every time things would look bad, I would come to Australia, win a race, and get my career going on the right path again. I raced in the Formula Atlantic Australian Grand Prix four years in a row against Formula One drivers in identically prepared cars and won three times. Hopefully, my success in Australia will continue this weekend."
