CHICAGO - Team KOOL Green drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy qualified 10th and 22nd respectively for tomorrow's Target Grand Prix at Chicago Motor Speedway.
Franchitti earned his 10th place starting position with a lap average speed of 158.342 mph (23.395 seconds) around the one-mile oval. Tracy's fastest lap was an average speed of 156.027 mph (23.742 seconds).
Tony Kanaan earned the pole for tomorrow's race with a fast lap of 160.052 mph (23.145 mph).
In addition to chasing a win tomorrow, Tracy and Franchitti will be racing in support of 100 Black Men of America's efforts to increase access to computers, technology and training in urban centers. TKG will donate $37 for each lap completed by Tracy and Franchitti in tomorrow's race. The program, which has already raised $35,564.8, is in effect at Chicago and four additional races this season, including Detroit, Cleveland, Houston and Fontana, California.
Sunday's 225-lap Target Grand Prix of Chicago begins at 3:00 p.m. (CDT), and will be televised live on ABC.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
"I'm kind of excited I'm not last on the grid, because I've just had no grip all weekend. My qualifying lap was faster than I've run all weekend, but the KOOL car has been both pushing and loose. It's got really bad understeer in the middle of the corners and when I touch the throttle it steps sideways and I can't get the power down. With a small track like this, every thousandth of a second counts."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
"It's not a bad qualifying run. The KOOL car was okay, but it got quite loose in turn two on the first lap, and I gathered it up a bit and got through. The second lap was a clean one - we'll take it. That was pretty much the limit of the car at that point. I think we've got a better race car than we have qualifying car, and I'm actually quite happy with the race car."
