Four Gather AARWBA Honors

CART Online (December 20, 1998) - Four of the top five finishers in the 1998 FedEx Championship Series received recognition on the 29th annual All-America Team selected by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association, led by two-time series champion Alex Zanardi (Target Reynard Honda), who earned First Team honors in the Open Wheel division for the second consecutive year.

Series runner-up Jimmy Vasser (Target Reynard Honda) was a Second Team selection while Dario Franchitti (KOOL Reynard Honda) and Greg Moore (Player's/Indeck Reynard Mercedes) received Honorable Mention. PPG-Dayton Indy Lights champion Cristiano da Matta, who joins the Arciero-Wells/MCI WorldCom Racing Champ Car team this season, earned an at-large berth on the First Team.

The 29th AARWBA All-America Team, which includes competitors from the open wheel, stock car, road racing, drag racing and short track ranks, will be honored Saturday, Jan. 16 at the AARWBA banquet at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, Calif. The highlight of the evening will be presentation of the annual Jerry Titus Award to the driver who received the highest vote total for the All-America Team.
