MICHAEL ANDRETTI -6- K Mart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 14th TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR QUALIFYING ATTEMPT TODAY. "We had a big understeer and I just couldn't turn the car." WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN DURING THE RACE TOMORROW? THERE ARE A LOT OF GUYS STARTING UP FRONT WHO DON'T HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE. "It's going to be slow. Everybody is just scratching their heads wondering what is going to happen. The race pace is going to be slow. We are probably going to be lapping the track about three seconds a lap slower than we qualified."

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI -11- Big K Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 12th YOU WERE HOPING TO HAVE A LITTLE BETTER STARTING POSITION . . . "I am a bit disappointed in our qualifying position. We really didn't get a good balance in the car. The car was pushing quite a bit and we are struggling with grip right now. But, it's a long race and we just need to stay out of trouble tomorrow and continue to build on our early season success." YOU HAD A BIG WIGGLE IN THE CAR GOING INTO THE KINK . "Yes. I got a little bit lucky and was able to bring it back. But the car was not there today. We don't have a lot of grip out there. It's going to be a long race."

MAX PAPIS -7- Miller Lite Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 7th YOU HAVE TO BE RELATIVELY HAPPY WITH YOUR RUN . . . "I tell you, we gave it all we had. I went into turn three on lap two and slid up a little too much. I thought I was going to be a little better than my time showed. I felt like a sprint car driver out there at times. If I would have been able to make it stick it would have been a great lap. I am really pleased." HOW TOUGH IS IT GOING TO BE TO GO 225 LAPS WITH THESE WINGS? "People are just going to have to use their heads. It's going to be very, very interesting tomorrow."

BRYAN HERTA -8- Shell Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 16th MANY OF THE DRIVERS ARE SAYING THAT THE GRIP IS NOT THERE. WAS THAT THE CASE WITH YOU? "The way they order us to go out and qualify it's best to go late. The track is going to come in as more guys run on it." DOES QUALIFYING BECOME MORE CRITICAL NOW WITH THE NEW WING SETUP? "It's so tough out there that every time you go out to qualify you can't leave anything for tomorrow."

ADRIAN FERNANDEZ -40- Tecate/Quaker State Ford - Qualified 9th YOU HAVE MADE SUBSTANTIAL GAINS IN SPEED ALL WEEKEND. YOU HAVE TO BE PRETTY HAPPY ABOUT THAT. "Yesterday we were sixth fastest but for us the most important thing is to get a good balance in the car. This morning it was impossible to get around here. We couldn't get a clean lap and I didn't want to jeopardize the car. So, we knew what we had and I just wanted to get as far up front as possible because it's going to be a tough race." WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING FOR THE RACE TOMORROW? "We are going to start out on the safe side. We don't know what to expect."

P.J. JONES -20- Visteon Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 8th YOU HAD A SOLID QUALIFYING RUN TODAY IN THE SWIFT. YOU SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER ACCLIMATED TO THE NEW TEAM, CHASSIS AND ENGINE. DO YOU THINK THINGS ARE STARTING TO COME TOGETHER FOR YOU? "I am pretty excited. It's been a pretty good weekend so far. We are going to keep working on getting the car right. I think we have a pretty good car. The car is coming along and if we can just keep the momentum we should be in good shape for the race tomorrow." YOU HAD A BIT OF A SCARE GOING THROUGH THE KINK ON YOUR WARM UP LAP. "Yes, coming out of turn four I was sideways. I really had to wrestle the car back. It's taking me a bit of time to get even more comfortable with the car but when we do we should be very strong."

MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. -19- Herdez/Viva Mexico Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 22nd HOW MUCH DID YOUR ACCIDENT IN PRACTICE THIS MORNING IMPACT THE TIME YOU COULD PUT DOWN IN QUALIFYING? "It killed us. We have been working on bringing the car along but then we had to work on preparing the backup car and it was not exactly the same car. We were improving a lot and I think we could have been even more competitive if we had a little more time. But, we will go out tomorrow and try and get some points."
