Herdez Competition rookie driver Mario Dominguez had worked his way from his starting position of 17th into 12th position when he lost power in a puff of blue smoke on the front straight of this two-mile super speedway. The engine failure took place on lap 107 of the 250 lap event leaving Dominguez in 16th position overall.
Mario Domínguez - Driver
"It's too bad - the engine just blew up. Our plan was to stay out there and in the mix until the last 100 miles and then really go for it. That seemed to be working pretty well. The car was loose but the team made some wing changes during the pit stops and I was working the bars and weight jacker. The Herdez team gave me good stops and things were going to plan but the engine just gave up on us.
"The next race is in Mexico City, my hometown, and I'm very much looking forward to it. It's probably the most important race of the season for me and our sponsors. So we are all looking forward to that."
Keith Wiggins - Managing Director
"We didn't have a lot of pure speed but the race was going pretty much to plan for us. We were moving up through the pack to be in position for the end. It's just a shame that the engine didn't last the distance."
