Adrian Fernandez, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Reynard/Firestone:
Qualified: 7th Finished: 3rd
"We lost the race on our second stop. We've been having some problems with the clutch. On the first pit stop, I had quite a bit of trouble getting it into first gear but we managed to get out. On the second pit stop, I was trying to engage it and I couldn't. It was very difficult. We definitely lost the race there. Are we disappointed? No. We had some bad luck, but at least we finished on the podium. I guess I am a little bit disappointed. We did all the hard work up to that point, and I had a fantastic car. That's the only part that really hurts."
On the first podium for the new team: "This feels fantastic. Just great. It's been frustrating and I've been getting some criticism about the decision to start the team. The team has been very competitive, and we should have finished a number of races towards the front. A lot of things have happened -- some were part of the growing of a new team and some were out of our control. We really started the team in December, and we didn't have anything. If you look at it now, for me it's pretty impressive the job that the guys have done."
Shinji Nakano, #52 Avex/Alpine Honda/Reynard/Firestone:
Qualified: 26th Finished: 9th
"I lost my radio at the beginning of the race and that was a problem on the restarts and under yellow as to when I should come into the pits. I couldn't communicate about the setup of the car to the pits and I had a massive understeer in the race. I wanted to make some wing adjustments but there was no way to communicate and no time. It was a little bit of bad luck, but at least we could finish the race. There are still many things to learn and many things we need to work on to improve. It was a difficult weekend. I had a good car, but not good luck. Qualifying was my mistake, and hopefully I won't make the same mistake. Adrian's podium finish was good news for the whole team -- the first podium. I am happy for him. I want to do the same as Adrian, and we just have to keep working towards it."
Tom Anderson, Owner/Team Manager:
"Obviously I am very pleased with Adrian's result. He did a great job out there today. I am also happy that Shinji was able to come from last to ninth. It would have helped if he had radio communication as his pit strategy didn't match mine. All in all, with two cars in the top ten and our first podium, it was a good weekend."
