CART has released the following statement on the tragic events of today:

"Many individuals in the CART community are in Germany for this Saturday's German 500 at EuroSpeedway in Lausitz. Each is safe and secure and has been closely following the tragic events that occurred Tuesday in the U.S. CART extends its deepest sympathy to those impacted by these incidences. CART is working closely with the U.S. government officials to assess the situation and will provide additional information regarding this weekend's event, as it becomes available."

Motorsport.com has learned from reliable sources that Saturday's German 500 will be run as scheduled.

Reuters in Europe quotes a EuroSpeedway spokesperson as saying: "It's 100 per cent sure that the race will go ahead."
