Wirdheim's Impressive Drive Ends in Frustration, Sperafico 12th

BJORN WIRDHEIM, #4 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone

Bjorn on the Race: "I chose the shortest straw on the start. There were so many cars going through the inside of the first turn, that I knew if I took that line I would not gain any positions. So I decided to go around the outside and I went for it. Unfortunately it didn't work, as I lost two positions. The first stint was good; I overtook the cars that passed me on the start right away. I worked my way up to ninth position before my first stop and I had a consistently quick pace. On the first stop, there was a slight problem in the pits that caused us to short-fill. I passed Dominguez on the way out of the pits and I passed Philippe on the track after my first pitstop. I was pleased with the car and happy to be one of the faster cars and gaining track position. Unfortunately, we had to make our second stop a little early because of the fuel situation and it was a long stop as we had to fill the tank, so unfortunately I returned to the track two positions down. My third set of tires did not seem to be balanced the same and I struggled to find the pace that I had earlier in the race. I was pushing really hard to keep Tagliani behind me and eventually, I made a mistake and lost the rear which ended the day for us. It is incredibly disappointing because I think we ran well today, especially in the first part of the race and we were certainly in the position for a top-ten finish. It's been a tough string of races, but on the positive side, we consistently have a very fast race pace and I am looking forward to putting it to use for a strong result in San Jose. Everyone involved with this event did a fantastic job. The track was really fast and a lot of fun to drive. The crowds were absolutely incredible all weekend long. This event is a great example of the strength of Champ Car."

ALEX SPERAFICO, #55 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone

Alex on the Race:"I am pleased to have finished another race and earned some points today. It was pretty crazy out there at the end, but again, it was my goal to finish the race. I was not in the position to do a lot of racing, but the races are great experience for me, I feel like I've learned a lot."
