Champ Cars to Test Wednesday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS (August 17, 2004) -- Las Vegas has made its living as the place to go to make a wager or two, but the teams of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford have no intention of gambling when it comes to having 750hp turbocharged race machines screaming around the oval at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

To that end, 15 of the 18 drivers that will compete in the Las Vegas Champ Car 400 will put in a full day of testing on the superspeedway oval Wednesday August 18 as they prepare themselves and their cars for the September 25 event.

Testing will begin at 2 p.m. local time and will continue long past sundown in a session that is slated to end at 10 p.m. The nighttime testing is especially vital to the teams since the 400km Champ Car race, which will run directly after the NASCAR Craftsman Truck event, will get started at approximately 9:15 p.m. that evening.

"This is a great opportunity for Champ Car as well as for the teams to get out and see how the cars perform on the high-speed oval," said Executive Vice-President of Operations John Lopes. "Lee Dykstra and his staff have spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel to find the optimal aerodynamic configurations for our cars and we expect to put on a great race for the many fans that will attend the September 25 event."

The day-long test will be open to the public at no charge and seating in the grandstands of the Las Vegas facility will be available for fans at no charge.
