CHAMPCAR/CART: Detroit Fernandez Racing Friday practice notes

Adrián Fernández, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Reynard/Firestone:

Friday Afternoon Practice: 14th

“My car felt good from the start. The balance of the car is a little bit on the push side, but in general it is pretty forgiving. I lost a lot of time on my quickest lap with a mistake I made and also traffic, so I’m pretty happy. It was hard to get a clean run. We just have to keep working for tomorrow. Unfortunately we have a penalty to serve [from Long Beach] in qualifying, but hopefully that won’t effect us too much.”

Shinji Nakano, #52 Avex/Alpine Honda/Reynard/Firestone:

Friday Afternoon Practice: 23rd

“The car was getting better but we basically didn’t have enough time to learn the car, learn the track and work with the setup. There were little things we need to work on to make the car better.“

Tom Anderson, Owner/Team Manager:

“It is nice to be in Detroit on Belle Isle. It’s an interesting circuit that presents a lot of opportunities for race day – a lot of windows for fuel opportunities because CART normally keeps the pits open under the yellows here so it makes for a lot of quick thinking. Today we were working with the chassis and got an opportunity to run the new CART spacer that they put under the pop-off valve this week, so we were making some adjustments for that. It was basically a reasonable day. Fridays are information days for the engineers. Obviously, with Belle Isle being a temporary circuit, no one has had the opportunity to test here. Tomorrow will be a good test of the engineering capabilities that go on this evening in the paddock.”
