Team NicoDerm CQ-Nicorette Ford Reynard Unveiled
Dennis Vitolo will drive the #34 Payton-Coyne entry.
February 6, 1999) - The unveiling of the new Team NicoDerm CQ-Nicorette Ford Reynard at CART's annual Spring Training at Homestead, Fla., represents the expanded presence of both smoking cessation products in the 1999 FedEx Championship Series and the launch of the new mint-flavored Nicorette gum.
Driver Dennis Vitolo will drive the #34 Payton-Coyne Racing entry, marking his fourth year representing SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare. The newly designed bright green car carries prominent NicoDerm CQ and Nicorette logos on its sidepods. Aquafresh and Aquafresh Flex logos signify the oral care brand's continued support of the team.
"On behalf of NicoDerm CQ and Nicorette, we are pleased to expand our presence in the 1999 FedEx Championship Series as the first and only smoking cessation involvement in major league auto racing," said Steve Kapur of SmithKline Beecham. "We are also pleased to continue our association with driver Dennis Vitolo, who quit smoking the day he started racing."
"There are parallels to driving a car and quitting smoking. In order for a race car driver to succeed, he needs the support and dedication of his crew. Similarly, for a smoker to succeed at quitting, the individual often needs the support system and sense of team effort offered by NicoDerm CQ and Nicorette's smoking cessation program."
Vitolo's 1999 CART program will campaign the car on all the U.S. ovals.
Vitolo is equally enthusiastic about the coming season. "We have completely revised our approach to the CART Series. Although I'll be competing in fewer races this year, we have a testing program. Our few days at Homestead were very productive. I have the privilege of David Morgan engineering my car this year and sense that we will work very well together. The Payton-Coyne team is really coming into its own and I'm happy to be a part of it."
"On a personal note," Vitolo continues, "our entire team embraces shared values. I am proud to represent NicoDerm CQ and Nicorette's mission to improve the health and lives of people who smoke. Dale Coyne and his team exemplify the virtue of relentless hard work and the results it brings. This group has a lot of heart."
Team NicoDerm CQ-Nicorette Ford Reynard supports the CART community with a special program for any team member who wishes to quit smoking. Team members can register to receive free NicoDerm CQ and Nicorette products. For those who successfully quit smoking, SmithKline Beecham will make a $500 donation in their name to the American Cancer Society.
