Gerry Green announced this noon that Dario Franchitti has agreed to a new two year contract with Team KOOL Green. Green said he was "very pleased" with having the entire team back together next year. Paul Tracy earlier had renewed his contract.

Franchitti said that while he still has an interest in Formula One, "what is most important to me is to be with a competitive team with chance to win races and championships." CART is the place he feels he can do that.

He also said "CART is the most competitive series" combing the four different types of courses (high speed ovals, short ovals, street courses and purpose built road courses.

The competitiveness of the series is demonstrated by the fact that in the first 12 races of the 2001 season, there have been 8 different winners, and 18 different drivers on the podium.
