CORBY, ENGLAND . . . Jimmy Vasser and Michel Jourdain Jr. endured a frustrating first day of practice and qualifying for the Rockingham 500. Both drivers endured mechanical problems in the morning session which led to reduced practice time.

Vasser qualified 13th with a fast lap of 210.784 mph while Jourdain will start 19th with a fast lap of 207.855 mph.

The pole position was won by Ganassi Racing's Kenny Brack with a fast lap of 213.763 mph. Brack started on the pole for Team Rahal at Rockingham in 2001.

SPEED Channel will broadcast Saturday's Rockingham 500 live at 8:30 AM.

Jimmy Vasser (#8 Shell Ford-Cosworth/Lola on Bridgestone tires) - "The Shell car feels really good. We have all the down force we can take off the car and the car is working pretty good. I am virtually flat the whole way around so I guess we got everything that we have. Tomorrow is a long race and grid position is important but we will take what we can get and go from there. We were just a tick slower than we were in the morning practice, which is the case for just about everyone without a draft. We will take what we can get and start wherever we end up. We have a decent race setup car we are just struggling on top-end speed."

Michel Jourdain Jr. (#9 Gigante Ford-Cosworth/Lola on Bridgestone tires) - "Today has been a long and frustrating day. We struggled this morning with several problems in practice and that limited our running. The problem with a two-day event is if you get behind with so little track time it is tough to catch up and unfortunately some of the problems carried over to the afternoon and qualifying. I felt we were going to do better but the car was quite loose so I had to lift through Turns 3 and 4 or I would have spun. Hopefully we will have a good car for tomorrow's race and we can pass some people and stay on the lead lap and score some points."
