AL UNSER JR. TAKES FIFTH WIN OF THE YEAR IN CLEVELAND -----------------------------------------------------

Al Unser Jr. scored his second consecutive win, and fifth of the year, taking the Budweiser Grand Prix of Cleveland. Unser extended his lead in the PPG Indy Car World Series and gave Roger Penske his seventh consecutive IndyCar win of the season.

Unser scored bonus points for qualifying on the pole and leading the most laps, and captured his second consecutive Marlboro Pole Award, which boosted today's earnings by $25,000.

Unser overcame a painful back on the bumpy Cleveland airport circuit, finishing ahead of defending PPG Cup champion Nigel Mansell, who tied his best finish of the year.

Early in the going, Unser's Penske teammate Emerson Fittipaldi kept the pressure on Mansell until dropping out late in the race with an engine failure. Tracy finished third, followed by Jacques Villeneuve, who leads the Rookie of the Year standings.

The top ten included Raul Boesel, Adrian Fernandez (in his best finish of the year), Teo Fabi, Alessandro Zampedri, Robby Gordon and Willy T. Ribbs (also a season-best performance).

Among those dropping out before the checkered flag were Fittipaldi, Michael and Mario Andretti and Bobby Rahal. Michael Andretti and Rahal suffered engine failures like Fittipaldi, while Mario Andretti was eliminated after a brush with teammate Mansell.

Today's race marked the completion of the first half in the 16-race 1994 PPG Indy Car World Series. Unser now leads the championship with 127 points followed by Fittipaldi with 86 points and Mansell with 72 points. Robby Gordon, who lost time under a black flag penalty today, has 66 points with Paul Tracy (64 points) and Michael Andretti (59 points) ranked fifth and sixth.
