Justin posted the 4th fastest lap in first qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix of Cleveland with a time of 57.312 seconds (132.286mph). Sebastien Bourdais took provisional pole for Newman-Haas with a 56.851. The Forsythe team were, as expected, competitive, although A.J. Allmendinger and Paul Tracy posted their 2nd and 3rd fastest times on the softer red Bridgestone tyre compound. Justin's team-mate Cristiano da Matta was 10th fastest.

Although the qualifying session was held on a dry track, it followed a wet main practice session which was red flagged five times as the drivers found their feet around Burke Lakefront Airport. As a result, Justin and the #9 CDW team had little dry running and will be making the most of Saturday morning's practice session to extract more speed from the car.

"I'm reasonably pleased with the progress we've made," commented Justin. "We've found a little bit of speed, but we've still got some work to do overnight to get ready for final qualifying and hopefully we'll be closer to the front of the grid. But today, fourth is respectable and I think we're in the ballpark. We're pretty quick over half the track…we just need figure out the other half."
