Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 1st)
"I don't know if there is a safe place, but I'd rather start on the front row than back in the pack. We'll see what happens. I think the McDonald's team did a good job. The car was pretty good. I think it was a little harder to do it on the second run because there was a lot of traffic and I didn't kind of slot in the right place on the racetrack. I had a slow car in front. You know, it was just kind of playing yo-yo a little bit. It's never really easy when you can't put a string of laps around here. You really need to get in the rhythm and get it a little bit faster lap after lap. I think we were pretty lucky we held onto it on the last run. We'll see how it goes. But it seems to be going on for a good weekend."
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 2nd)
"as the track gripped up it became a little bit more understeer. My first run, it's easy to overdrive this track because there's so much room on the entries. All I had to do was put a lap together. I sort of did that in the second run, but I still sort of just got to work things out a little bit better in my head, just do a nice neat lap."
Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 3rd)
"Basically this morning I came on this track, which I knew - I thought I knew it, but it was a lot narrow. Every corner popped up pretty quickly to my eye. I had to review my reference points, my brake points, all of that. But after eight laps, I would get back to speed and was able to score a top five this morning. So I think we're already on a good pace. Can't wait for tomorrow already."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone(Qualified 4th)
"It started off tough this morning, but we are getting quicker. I still feel like we have some work to do, but our main aim is to try and get the #9 CDW car on the front row and from there we will strive for another podium."
Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 5th)
"This was the second best qualifying effort for the Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing team. So, it was an okay start to the weekend, but we should have been on the front row today. We had a good first stint, but we should have got more out of the second set of tires. The car doesn't feel bad. We just have to put a fine edge on it and it will be there. Let's see what happens tomorrow. This is a good track. It is not as bumpy as I was told. The biggest thing is it is difficult to see where you are because it is so wide open."
Alex Tagliani #8 RSPORTS Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 6th)
"I feel pretty good. I think that the RSPORTS team did a fantastic job with the #8 RSPORTS car. We are quite pleased with the way the car is. I think we can be very competitive here this weekend and we are happy to be only three-tenths from the front row with the way the car is at the moment. So, I think that there is more to come and that we can definitely make some big improvements tomorrow."
Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 7th)
"Qualifying was disappointing for the Medi | Zone team. In pre-qualifying warmup we were the fastest and we thought we had a pretty good car. We ran the Bridgestone reds at the end but they weren't faster like we thought they would be so we wasted them. I think we would have gone faster on the standard black tires like we ran on the first run. I went out but couldn't put a lap together because of all the traffic. I came up on Tracy a couple of times and it screwed up my laps. Luckily he spun on my second set (of tires) so I didn't have to deal with him again. It makes it tough. We also had an oil leak and haven't figured that out yet. So far it seems like another classic weekend for us where we haven't been able to put it together. Eventually things have to start going our way and we can make something happen."
Oriol Servia #7 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 8th)
"The mechanics did an awesome job, we had a problem with the differential right before qualifying and they were able to change it right there in pit lane and I still had enough time to go out and get a full stint in. That just shows how great this Forsythe Team is, I don't think there are a lot of crews in this or any paddock that can work that quick. Considering we only had one run we were still in the top ten so that is a plus. Obviously it would've been better to get all 15 laps in for qualifying, but when things go wrong it means that there is room for improvement so I'm looking forward to going out there tomorrow and improving my position. Also since we didn't do a lot of running we have a lot of tires left, including two sets of Bridgestone Reds so we should be strong tomorrow for qualifying."
Robert Doornbos #14 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 9th)
"It was a very hard day, to be honest, but it is a long weekend. Normally we are quite competitive right from the start, but we struggled today to get a decent flow. The car was a bit nervous, but we'll work hard tonight and hopefully improve for tomorrow."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 10th)
"We were very strong this morning, the car felt great and we managed to put in a pretty good lap. For qualifying we tried some changes but unfortunately it seems that we went on the wrong direction. During my quick lap I went off coming out of turn four, dropped a wheel in the dirt so I lost quite a bit of time there. Then we put the reds on and I thought we were going to be a lot faster but I just couldn't not match my fastest lap. The car had massive oversteer and I just never managed to go any quicker. But we are close, now we'll just have to go over the data and figure out where we have to be tomorrow."
"Speedy" Dan Clarke #4 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 12th)
"There's not a lot to say, really. We tried some things and lost out in one particular corner, which then had a knock-on effect on the overall lap time. It's only Friday, though, so I'm sure we'll improve tomorrow. We know we have a good car and one that can be inside the top 10."
Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay By Touch-Megaspiera Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 13th)
"The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea team just needs to continue to work and I am sure we will improve our starting position. I had a problem with the traffic on the first set of tires, but we were fast on old tires, so that is going to be good for the race. I didn't have any problems with the track. After the first couple of laps I just started using the cones as markers and that helped. Tomorrow is going to be very important. We have to do better in final qualifying."
Jan Heylen #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 15th)
"I'm a little disappointed by my performance today," said Heylen. "The team and I felt like we had a good car this morning during the practice session but we seem to have lost our way in the setup of the car. We were running late for the session because of those changes so we're going to have to sort everything out tonight and make sure to have a strong final qualifying tomorrow."
