INSTANT REPLAY: Rain scrambled the starting grid for the 19th running of the Marconi Grand Prix of Cleveland last season as the faster cars started in the back of the grid after Lake Erie dumped some of its contents on the Burke Lakefront course during the second half of the split-session qualifying. The rains meant that the field would spend most of the day chasing Max Wilson and then Memo Gidley around the Cleveland layout, with Gidley leading a career-high 57 laps in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing machine while Dario Franchitti sliced his way through the field from his 14th-place starting spot. Franchitti and his Team KOOL Green squad decided to have him pit for a splash of fuel during a second-lap caution period - a move that would pay huge dividends as he was able to stretch his final run all the way to the checkered flag while others had to stop for a late-race drink of methanol. Those that stopped included Gidley, who gave up the lead with 10 laps to go, allowing Franchitti to roll to his seventh career CART win ahead of a career-best second-place finish for Gidley while Bryan Herta would round out the podium for his best finish since his 1999 win at Laguna Seca.
