Heylen Completes Final Qualifying Session at Cleveland
In the final qualifying session of the Grand Prix of Cleveland presented by LaSalle Bank, Jan Heylen (#34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium / Cosworth / DP01 / Bridgestone) finished 17th in the provisional qualifying session with a lap time of 58.116 at a speed of 130.456-mph. He will start in the ninth row in the 17th position.
During the final qualifying session, Jan tried to improve his time from Friday using the Bridgestone reds however the balance on his car was affected and it was decided to return to the standard 'black' tires for the second qualifying outing. Three laps on these new tires gave him his fastest time which was unfortunately taken away after a spin out in the first corner that caused a red flag and shortened the session.
"That was not my best qualifying session," said Heylen. "I'm disappointed with my performance because we have a fast car but that spinout cost me time up on the board. However, it is a long race and we plan on using all of our resources to make sure we are tough competitors and have a strong finish."
"Unfortunately Jan's fastest lap was taken away after his spinout," said Eric Bachelart, Conquest Racing team owner. "The balance on our car was affected on the alternate Bridgestone reds and by the time we were able to change them out he was only able to run a couple of laps. We will just plan to start the race tomorrow knowing we have a lot of work to do to move up in the field. We know we have a good car on standard tires and Jan's qualifying position does not reflect our potential. I believe we had a top ten car today but this kind of incident can happen."
The final grid for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by LaSalle Bank will be determined after the final qualifying session on Saturday, June 23rd. The green flag drops on the fifth round of the 2007 Champ Car World Series on Sunday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. EST. The race will be broadcast live on CBS Sports beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.
