Montreal, Quebec, July 18, 2001 Patrick Carpentier will be returning for his fifth straight season as a Team Player's driver in 2002, after management of the CART series team announced today that it has picked up the option on his contract for next year.

"We are thrilled to continue our association with Patrick, a seasoned driver whose professionalism and combativeness make him one of the top performers in his field," said Neil Micklewright, Vice-president of Operations for Team Player's.

Carpentier said he is pleased he will continue to be a part of a team that he believes is a rising force in the CART series.

"We went through some tough times early in the season, but everyone stayed focused because we knew that we had all the ingredients to be successful," remarked Carpentier. "I know that things are starting to turn around and I expect great things for the second half of the season."

As for the negotiations that led to the signing of his 2002 contract, Carpentier stated that he and team officials wanted to settle the issue as quickly as possible so that they could devote their full attention to winning races.
