Champ Car World Series to be only North American open-wheel event with live over-the-air broadcasts in Brazil.
BRASILIA, Brazil (February 10, 2003) - Brazilian Champ Car racing fans will have a chance to follow the action of their native sons live this season as the RedeTV! broadcast network announced a deal today to air all of the action of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford in 2003.
The three-year-old network is owned by Amilcare Dallevo, and Marcelo Carvalho, who have transformed it in three years into the fastest growing network in Brazil. The network reaches over 90 percent of the country, with future affiliate expansion planned that will take the broadcast signal to 95 percent of the nation. The deal was announced Monday in Brazil in conjunction with the release of the new Fittipaldi-Dingman Racing team, co-owned by Brazilian racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi. The former CART champion was also instrumental in the RedeTV! deal, as he is the holder of the Brazilian television rights to the Champ Car series.
"This is an incredible addition to Champ Car's international television line-up," said CART President and CEO Christopher R. Pook. "Network broadcasting is the only meaningful way to reach the people of the all-important Brazilian market and the new relationship with RedeTV! gives us an incredible advantage in building our coverage. We are grateful to RedeTV! as well as Fittipaldi for keeping us on the edge in television programming in Brazil."
The network, which is geared toward a younger audience, will do more than just carry the Champ Car events. Promotion will include CART and its drivers in all aspects of its programming and in-market promotions designed to build the viewing audience. The network has full digital capability and offers the latest technology in the television industry. The announcement means that the Champ Car World Series will be the only North American open-wheel racing series to be broadcast live on an over-the-air network in the country of Brazil.
"I am very pleased to partner with RedeTV! and it is only appropriate that we join forces with a young, aggressive and the fastest growing network at a time when CART is on the way up," said Fittipaldi. "There are many parallels between the RedeTV! model and Chris Pook's marketing platform at CART. We fully expect to surpass last year's viewership of over 100 million viewers for the season."
The coverage of the 2003 Champ Car World Series begins February 23rd with the inaugural Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, and will continue throughout the 19-race 2003 campaign.
