CHAMPCAR/CART: Brands Hatch: American Spirit Saturday report

JIMMY VASSER, ...

JIMMY VASSER, #12 American Spirit/Ford-Cosworth/Reynard

"It is a beautiful circuit, Paddock Hill bend is my favorite section. After seeing what happened to Ryan (Hunter-Reay), I was pretty cautious on my first lap trying to get the temperature into my tires. It took all four laps to get them to temp, so you really have to be precise around this place. I have to say though, I really like the single car qualifying on the road course, it gives the driver the opportunity to really push the car and make the most of it."

RYAN HUNTER-REAY, #31 American Spirit/Ford-Cosworth/Reynard

"This morning our optimal laps were the sixth or the seventh, we only had four in qualifying, so I was trying to get as much temp in them as quickly as possible.

"I took a risk and it bit me, it didn't pay off. This place is phenomenal; it is fast and a bit tricky but a lot of fun."

*Hunter-Reay spun on his warm-up lap, he did not take the green so the team intended to re-enter the 31 car if time allowed. The final car qualified two minutes after the session was scheduled to expire, so there was no extra time to attempt to qualify the 31 car. Hunter-Reay will be the first car to qualify tomorrow.
