Bourdais Nominated for SPEED Channel's Fourth Quarter Award

INDIANAPOLIS (November 17, 2005) After winning his second straight Bridgestone Presents Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford championship, accolades and awards have been piling up for Sebastien Bourdais. Most recently the Frenchman has been nominated for SPEED Channel's driver of the fourth quarter.

Bourdais is very familiar with being put on this impressive list, having been nominated in each of the previous three quarters in 2005. Last season he was also nominated three out of four quarters and lay claim the title of people's champion in the SPEED Channel Driver of the Year standings, capturing top honors in the fans' vote.

In the final quarter of the 2005 Champ Car season Bourdais recorded victories in both Surfers Paradise and Las Vegas, and earned two Bridgestone Pole Awards in Montreal and Las Vegas, before wrapping up the 2005 Champ Car title in Australia . Overall Bourdais recorded six wins on his way to his championship, but more important to his title hopes was the fact he scored nine consecutive top-five finishes and completed more than 99 percent of the scheduled race laps this year. Bourdais became the seventh driver in the last forty years of Champ Car World Series racing to record back-to-back championships. Even more impressive he is only the third driver to accomplish this feat in his second and third years of competition, joining the ranks of Champ Car Champions Mario Andretti and Alex Zanardi.

This quarter Bourdais will be dueling for the Driver of the Quarter honor with Tony Stewart (NASCAR), Dan Wheldon (IRL), Carl Edwards (NASCAR), Jimmie Johnson (NASCAR), Steve Kinser (World of Outlaws), Mark Martin (NASCAR), and Tony Schumacher (NHRA Top Fuel).

In its 39th year, the Driver of the Year Award will be determined by an independent vote of an 18-member panel of blue ribbon auto racing journalists and broadcasters. Drivers' achievements are evaluated using the following criteria: Track Performance, Sportsmanship, Humanitarianism, and Fan Recognition.

There is also a 19th vote that will be counted in the balloting, the fans. Fans can vote for the award by log going on to www.speedtv.com. Voting will continue through Wednesday, December 23 and the winner will be announced exclusively on Speed Channel Saturday, December 26 at 7:00pm ET.
