ALL AMERICAN RACERS ANNOUNCES NEW DRIVER LINE UP FOR UPCOMING CART FedEx CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RACES
July 14, 1999, Santa Ana, CA
Since AAR announced that Alex Barron will sit out 3 races to give the team a chance to get a "2nd opinion" about its unique chassis/engine/tire package, Alex has received an offer to test from Penske Racing. The very successful test in Michigan led to an offer to drive for Penske Racing at the upcoming U.S. 500 at Michigan.
In light of this development, Dan Gurney has elected to free up Alex Barron and plans to continue with Gualter Salles for the rest of the 1999 CART season.
Q U O T E S :
Dan Gurney, Owner of All American Racers
"We wish Alex the best of luck in the world. He has performed well for us in difficult circumstances and all of us at All American Racers are glad for the opportunity he has earned. We have high hopes that this will turn out to be a Win/Win situation for both teams."
Alex Barron, Racing Driver
"I would like to show my appreciation and thank Dan Gurney for giving me my first "shot" and for bringing me into the CART Championship series last year. Racing Champ cars is where I've always wanted to be.
"Working with Dan and AAR enabled me to learn a lot about Champ cars in a short time, especially since AAR designed and builds its own EAGLE chassis. Being part of the development program with Toyota gave me valuable insight into the characteristics of a chassis/power plant combination that I'll be able to put to good use for my future in Champ car racing."
