CART Announces Television Times for 1998 FedEx Championship Series Schedule

CART Online (February 13, 1998) -- Championship Auto Racing Teams' FedEx Championship Series kicks off its 45 hours of Champ Car coverage March 15 on ABC Television , with a 1:30 p.m. (EST) broadcast of the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami Presented by Toyota at Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

The inaugural 1998 broadcast will consist of two-and-a-half hours of live race action on the newly reconfigured 1-mile oval southwest of Miami. Over the ensuing eight months, the FedEx Championship Series will make 18 stops in five countries on four continents, with each race televised by either ABC or ESPN in the United States. Internationally, CART television broadcasts, on average, are seen in 188 countries.

"The 1998 season is the biggest ever, in terms of race events, for CART and we are looking forward to working with our television partners at ABC and ESPN to make our broadcasts the best yet," said Keith Allo, vice president of television for CART. "More than 60 million race fans throughout the world follow the FedEx Championship Series each telecast and our relationship with ABC, ESPN and ESPN International gives us a solid foundation from which to continue to build Champ Car racing."

Veteran motorsports commentator Bob Varsha, who did his first full season of Champ Car racing in 1997, returns to anchor each broadcast. He is joined in the announce booth by 1988 PPG Cup champion Danny Sullivan, who returns for his third season as analyst.
