INDIANAPOLIS (May 28, 2012) – Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing (SCCGR) driver Graham Rahal finished 13th at the 2012 Indianapolis 500. The result comes in at his 82nd IZOD IndyCar Series career start, his fifth Indianapolis 500 start overall and his second with the Service Central Chip Ganassi team.
Rahal started the race from the 12th position and showed strength early-on, running as high as fifth within the first 50 laps of the 200-lap race. Rahal ran with the leaders for nearly a quarter of the race, spending 45 laps in the top-five. The Service Central Chip Ganassi team ran as high as third position on the 2.5-mile, oval track, but would battle a loose car for the later portion of the race. With 20 laps to go, Rahal would pick up four spots before finishing 13th.
With the result, Rahal is now 14th in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings with 97 markers, 103 points out of the top spot.
Up next, Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing will compete in the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix on Sunday, June 3 (3:30pm ET on ABC).
Graham Rahal: “Tough day for the Service Central guys. We worked our way up there in the start and the car felt pretty good initially then it started to get really loose. I feel bad for the Service Central guys, they worked really hard but we just didn’t have it today. We just didn’t have quite enough.”
