Castroneves throws down 233.474mph lap Saturday morning

Speeds are picking up ahead of qualifying, but weather has threatened all day.

INDIANAPOLIS - 32 of 34 teams posted a time in the moring practice session that immediately precedes qualifying for the Indy 500. Two Dale Coyne machines did not take part, being the No. 18 of Carlos Huertas and the No. 19 of Tristan Vautier (to be James Davison for the race).

The session was delayed for two hours by rain before any cars were able to get onto the track. A total of 19 cars managed to hit the 230mph mark on their laps with ten of those hitting 231mph. However, J.R. Hildebrand (at 232.985mph) and Helio Castroneves (at 233.474mph) were in a league of their own.

James Hinchcliffe was the fastest Honda driver in sixth, at 231.649mph.

Bryan Clauson and Buddy Lazier were the slowest at 227.716mph and 225.890mph.

Qualifying begins at 12:25pm, local time.
