The Brazilian appears to have made his decision in favor of stock car racing in his homeland.

Rubens Barrichello has yet to confirm but SPEED has reported that “inside sources” have claimed that the Brazilian Stock Car Series is where he will end up in 2013. A loss for the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Since leaving Formula One, Barrichello has been hesitant to hang up his helmet. His best friend Tony Kanaan talked him into testing an IndyCar. Barrichello not only tested, he became Kanaan’s KV Racing teammate.

When Barrichello’s ride went away, the Brazilian was still in hopes of finding the funds for an IndyCar ride or to possibly make a return to Formula One. Caterham-Renault was named as a possible ride in F1; while Sam Schmidt Motorsports and Rahal Letterman Lanigan were on the IndyCar list.

At the age of 40, Barrichello still has the desire to be behind the wheel and pushing to the limits. Just last weekend, he was racing for Medley Full Time Sports Peugeot at Interlagos in Sao Paulo. Apparently that was when the proposal was offered.

Kanaan commented: "He got a proposal there (in Brazilian Stock Cars) because right now people aren’t giving him many options (in IndyCar). They’re asking him for money to keep racing in IndyCar, and he doesn’t have all the sponsors. I know his heart is still in IndyCar, but he’s not going to sit and wait.

At this time Barrichello has returned to his homeland but has declined to make a comment. The formal announcement is expected in a few days.
