Pocono, PA - Alex Tagliani and his Barracuda Racing crew earned a seventeenth place finish Sunday afternoon at Pocono Raceway.
After a hard crash during qualifying on Saturday afternoon, Tagliani was cleared to drive and the No. 98 car was ready to go less than 20 hours later. Starting from the back of the field, the veteran driver was determined to bring home a solid finish.
A lap-one incident allowed the team to pit early for a splash of fuel. Setup adjustments were made on the next pit stop and Tagliani continued to fight for his position on track. He remarked that the car's biggest issue was the front end "grabbing through the turns."The team and driver made adjustments throughout the day and were able to improve the car as the race unfolded, however after losing a lap early to the leaders they were never able to fight back onto the lead lap.
"It's no secret that we've been struggling with the car on ovals," said Tagliani. "I'm happy that we're going back to street courses next weekend. We'll see where we are with the street courses but our pace on ovals has been an issue. Hopefully we'll be good in Toronto and go from there."
In one week, the IZOD IndyCar Series heads to Canada for a double-header race weekend on the streets of Toronto, Ontario. Tagliani will aim to bring home two strong finishes in front of his "home" crowd. Race one of the Honda Indy Toronto will take place on Saturday, July 13 with an estimated green flag at 3:40 p.m. ET. Race two will take place at the same time on Sunday, July 14. Both races will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network in the U.S. and SportsNet in Canada.
