Andretti Green Racing's Marco Andretti and Tony Kanaan led practice over the morning and afternoon sessions at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Friday (July 18th), ahead of Saturday qualifying and Sunday's Indy 200 Race on the 2.258 mile road circuit.

Andrettti's best lap of 119.699 mph paced the evening session ahead of Kanaan, whose own 199.488 mph tour was the fastest in the morning stanza.

Both drivers cited the heat, and its effect on the ractrack, as factors in both driver and race car performance.

"The heat is definitely a factor, and tomorrow it will be even hotter," said Kanaan. He went on to cite the virtues of his off-season warm-weather training in Miami where he maintains a home as a good 'warmup' for the conditions in central Ohio this weekend.

"We're struggling with grip, overall, and we need to find better balance on the car," added Marco. "If it weren't for the combination of the heat and the long qualifying format here I would like to drive the ALMS race, but that's not going to happen obviously."

Marco took a turn at the wheel of the Andretti Acura in a test last week to feel out the newly resurfaced MOSSC course as preparation for this week's IndyCar Series activities.

Third today was Team penske's Helio Castroneves on 119.413 mph with Ryan Briscoe, Ganassi Racing star Scott Dixon and Newman Haas' Justin Wilson rounding out the top six.

Actions resumes on Saturday with more practice leading up to qualifying at 12:15 PM EDT.
