For the fourth year, Penske’s Will Power earned the pole on the street circuit in St. Pete. The surprise was Japanese racer Takuma Sato taking the second grid slot for AJ Foyt Racing.
Sato continues to show speed in ABC Supply Honda as IZOD IndyCar Series kicks off in St. Petersburg
A.J. Foyt Racing’s Takuma Sato led the dozen Honda-powered competitors on Friday.
The IZOD IndyCar series has officially started the new season on the temporary special built circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida with Team Penske’s Power setting the fastest time.
“You must be quite careful going through Turn 1 at the start and on the re-starts," said Takuma Sato.
Testing at the Barber Motorsports Park ended with the Australian maintaining the fastest lap time. Up next is the St. Pete race on March 24.
