Tharani edges out Parekh in morning practice

The final weekend of the National Racing Championship started at the Madras Motor Racing Track on Saturday morning with Karthik Tharani topping the timesheets.

With the title in play, Tharani stamped his authority in the morning practice session clocking 1m41.088s which was 0.788s ahead of the championship leader Goutham Parekh.

A warm day in Chennai as the nine drivers headed out for crucial practice before qualifying in the afternoon.

Parekh stayed on top for a brief moment before Tharani upped his pace to break into the 1m41's.

Behind the trio, rookie Tejas Ram slotted in at third with Anshul Shah at fourth. The returning Brit driver Hamish Robinson completed the top five.

It was a tough session for Arjun Narendran who was down at seventh and about six seconds off Tharani with actor/racer Jai Sampath ahead of him.

The two new drivers this weekend, Aditya Mhatre and Aayush Saini finished eighth and ninth.

Qualifying starts 14:30 local time.
