COOPER TIRES PROTOTYPE LITES CHAMPIONSHIP TO RACE AT MID-OHIO

BRASELTON, GA (November 30, 2010) The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship will join the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge August 5 - 6, 2011.

"The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship is happy to be joining the ALMS at the Mid-Ohio event, as all of our races in 2011 will be run in conjunction with the ALMS presented by Tequila Patron series" said Series Manager Mike Simons. "As at all our events, we'll have two 30-minute races."

Scot Elkins, Vice President of Operations for International Motor Sports Association, also looks forward to seeing the development series compete alongside its ALMS brethren.

"This is another chance for IMSA to promote our developmental series, like the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship," said Elkins. "The more that the teams and drivers in the series can experience the same tracks and events as the ALMS teams do, the better prepared they will be if they choose to move up the series ladder."

The center of operations for series sponsor Cooper Tire is a mere 75 miles away from the racetrack. Naturally, they're pleased about the addition to the series schedule.

"Prototype Lites racing is fun any weekend, but when you can race in one's backyard it's even sweeter," stated Chris Pantani, Director of Motorsports for Cooper Tire. "Mid-Ohio is a stone's throw away from Cooper Tire's headquarters in Findlay, Ohio. We are looking forward to a strong Buckeye contingent of fans to join us Aug 5th and 6th at Mid-Ohio."

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, beginning a year-long celebration of its 50th season of racing, features a permanent 2.25-mile, 13-turn road racing circuit. Located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland near Mansfield, the track annually hosts local, regional and nationally sanctioned racing.

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship features racing between two sports car prototype classes, Lites 1 and Lites 2, requiring drivers to be aware of classes competing at differing speeds - the same challenge faced by the drivers of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.
