Four teams will race the entire season.
Chevrolet heads into the second season of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship with a strong lineup of Corvette Daytona Prototypes that are aiming to deliver a fourth consecutive Engine Manufacturer title in North American sports car racing. Five Corvette DPs from three entrants will open the season at the 53rd Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 24-25, and four will contest the full 10-race TUDOR Championship.
A two-car lineup for Action Express Racing – the defending Prototype Team Champion – along with Wayne Taylor Racing and VisitFlorida.com Racing (formerly Spirit of Daytona Racing) will make up the Corvette DP contingent for 2015. The 2014 season will be a tough act to follow.
Last season, Chevrolet Corvette DPs won six of 11 races and took the top three positions in both the Prototype Driver and Team championships.
“The results from the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship continued our championship efforts from the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet’s Director of Racing. “The expectation for the 2015 season is to add to those successes. We have three partner teams with championship pedigrees, and we look forward to working together to lead Chevrolet to another Prototype Engine Manufacturer title.”
All Corvette DP cars in the 2015 TUDOR Championship will run with updated Chevrolet bodywork that reflects the Corvette C7 production line.
The frontal area sees a striking change in design from the previous generation Corvette DP, including updates to the hood surface, headlights and radiator inlet area. The rear window area also has been updated. The Corvette DP will take styling cues from the C7 including the rear taillights.
At the heart of the Corvette Daytona Prototype is a purpose-built 5.5-liter Chevrolet LS9 V-8 engine developed by ECR Engines. The peak output is 560 hp as the power is regulated by a pair of sonic air restrictors that are mandated by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) – the sanctioning body of the TUDOR Championship.
The Corvette DP also features a new engine management system from Bosch Motorsport for 2015 and a continuation of a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle-shift. The brakes feature six-piston calipers with carbon rotors. Without the driver, the Corvette DP weighs 2,285 pounds.
The group of Corvette DPs hit the track for the first time in 2015 as part of the Roar Before the 24 from Friday through Sunday at Daytona International Speedway.
