FERRARI CHALLENGE, BARBER DODGE RACES ADDED TO WATKINS GLEN NASCAR/IMSA WEEKEND

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- The new IMSA Ferrari Challenge and SCCA Barber Dodge Pro Series have been added to the June 23-25 NASCAR/IMSA double-feature weeekend at Watkins Glen International.

The weekend brings together four of the nation's top motor racing sanctioning bodies in a cooperative effort to bring fans a varied program of six sports car and stock car races.

Saturday's schedule features the 12th running of the Glen Continental, featuring the International Motor Sports Association's Exxon World Sports Cars and GT classes in a three hour race on the 3.4-mile Grand Prix Circuit, beginning at 2 p.m.

The Ferrari Challenge, IMSA's newest series for Ferrari 348 and 355 production sports cars, rounds out the Saturday schedule with a 30 minutes race, beginning at noon.

NASCAR's Busch Grand National Series has a new date and distance, with the Busch Grand National 200 set for 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. The race features competitors in the Busch Grand National and Busch North Grand National Series, plus selected Winston Cup stars.

Sunday opens with a three hour IMSA Street Stock (formerly Firehawk) Endurance Championship, followed by 30 minute events for the Sports Car Club of America Barber Dodge Pro Series and the USAC/SCCA Formula Ford 2000 National Championship.

Formerly the Barber Saab Pro Series, Barber Dodge features identically- prepared open-wheel race cars. The Glen event is part of a 12-race championship featuring international competition for over $600,000 in prize money. The cars will feature aerodynamic improvements for 1995, along with new 165-mph Dodge 24-valve V-6 engines.

The NASCAR/IMSA double-feature opens the 1995 racing season at Watkins Glen International. Other spectator weekends include the 47th anniversary running of the SCCA Glen U.S. Nationals, July 15-16; the 10th Bud at the Glen, August 10-13, featuring the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch North Series and the SCCA Trans-Am; and the Sept. 8-10 Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix.

Ticket orders for the 10th annual Bud at the Glen and other 1995 WGI events are being accepted by calling (607) 535-2481. To reserve a free full-color brochure, write to Watkins Glen International, Box 500, Watkins Glen, N.Y., 14891.
