TAYLOR AND TEAM TAKE THIRD PLACE AT MOSPORT FESTIVAL

3 September, 1997

Toronto, Ontario -- Double World SportsCar Champion, Wayne Taylor, co-driver Eric van de Poele and Doyle Racing's #1 Danka/Toshiba Copiers & Fax Pirelli Oldsmobile Factory Riley & Scott MK III World SportsCar team grabbed their first podium finish of the season today when they placed third at SportsCar's two hour sprint event, The Mosport Festival. "You can't imagine how great this feels," said an elated Taylor of the Labor Day Weekend finish. "The guys have worked their guts out this year. They deserve this and better!"

In front of a record crowd of over 30,000 race fans, the World SportsCars took to the 2.459-mile road course at top speeds. Taylor started the race from sixth place, and quickly worked up to third. "The car felt great from the start," commented Taylor on his first stint. "Once I got through the initial traffic, I could see that it was going to be between us, the #16 Dyson Ford and the #43 Ferrari."

With Taylor handing over the car at the first stop, van de Poele kept the battle going for almost forty minutes with his nose just inches from the Dyson Ford's tail lights.

"Playing with Butch was fantastic," said van de Poele. "But, everytime I got close to him, the turbulence would push me back. In the end, I had to be satisfied with just keeping the pressure on him for Wayne's return." As the cars dived into the pits under a caution, Taylor retook the helm.

With not quite enough fuel on board to take him to the checkered flag, Taylor would have to pit for a quick splash before race end.

Forty-four minutes later, Canadian and Pole sitter, Ron Fellows, and teammate, Rob Morgan's, #43 Ferrari 333SP finished just .890 seconds in front of the Weaver/Leitzinger #16 Ford Dyson and Taylor's #1 Danka/Toshiba Copiers & Fax Oldsmobile R&S MK III. "After a season of woes, it's great to be back on podium again," said Taylor. "I really have to thank Jim Wright and Brayton Engineering for helping us get back here!" Taylor is SportsCar's double champion, winning the inaugural Exxon World SportsCar Championship Title in 1994 and then, repeating in 1996.

Since 1988, Wayne Taylor has amassed a record of 8 wins, 41 Top Five and 45 Top Ten Finishes in 85 Career Starts with SportsCar. He also stakes claim to 8 Poles, 11 Fastest Laps and Most Laps Led at this year's Rolex 24.
