BONILLA RECORDS THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN IN THE IMSA LITES PRESENTED BY HANKOOK PERFORMANCE TIRES SERIES
Tooele, Utah. - May 18 - Drivers from the IMSA Lites series were treated to a perfect afternoon to compete in the first of two rounds at the Miller Motosports Park.
Gerardo Bonilla driver for the #9 B K Motorsports L:1 DP02 showed patience beyond his years as he won his third consecutive race by a margin of 0.718 over Tonis Kasemets in the IMSA Lites Presented by Kankook Performance Tires series.
Gerarado stared in the second position behind former Champ Car driver Tonis Kasemets who was driving the #6 Pabst Racing/Parallax racing Elan DP02 entry.
"I had a difficult start and we went into turn one three cars wide and I got shuffled back to third stated Gerardo. I was trying to catch Tonis but we just couldn't get a run on him and then the caution came out and I thought this is going to be interesting. So on the restart he braked late in turn one and went wide so I got on the inside and just held that position for two laps to win the race." Tonis stated "I was in a nice rhythm and it was great being way out in front. I just messed up on the restart." Third place in L:1 went to Jay Cochran driving the #8 Primetime Race Group Elan DP02. Jay has a racing resume that includes IMSA World Sports Car factory team Ferrari 333 sp, Le Mans 24 hours, and competion in the European Le Mans series driving a Panoz LMP900/EPP. Cochran stated "I have been out of a race car for six years and have some catching up to do. We are very happy to capture the 3rd place and look forward to race number two."
IMSA Lites two would see driver Eric Vassian in the #24 PVM Racing West WR1000 race car capture the win in round three of competition. Eric stated "I'm just glad to be on the top step and I have to thank the guys at PVM racing for all the hard work."
Alex Gonzales in the #15 ActiveServe West WRX1000 would finish third with Mark White in the #02 Accumoto Motorsport/Throttle Threads.com West race car rounding out the top three.
Driver Chris Funk in Lites three in the #5 K.C. Racing DP06 is coming from back to back wins at the first rounds at Sebring. "The car was good and I just had to remember to slow down to go fast. This is a great facility and it is a pleasure to race with the American Le Mans Series". Chris stated.
Kelly Toombs in the #36 K.C. racing DP06 finished second and last years Lites Three Champion Robert Mumm would place third in L:3 class.
Drivers will compete Saturday May 19th at 8:15 a.m. MDT, for the second of two IMSA Lites Presented By Hankook Performance Tires races this weekend at the Larry H Miller Utah Grand Prix.
