GORING, DREWER EXTEND POINTS LEADS WITH WINS IN ROUND FIVE; FEINBERG, VASSIAN TAKE FIRST WINS OF THE SEASON IN ROUND SIX
LAKEVILLE, Conn. July 12 -- Jonathan Goring and Tom Drewer continued their winning in round five at Lime Rock Park, but it was Feinberg and Vassian who upset the point leaders in round six.
Feinberg passed pole-setter Goring going into turn one at the start of round six and pulled a lead out on the round five winner. Behind the top two there was contact between several cars that brought out the only full-course yellow of the weekend.
Feinberg pulled a lead out on the restart. Just when it looked like he would walk away with the victory, Goring reeled him back in making a controversial pass. Feinberg and Goring would swap the lead two more times before Feinberg made his final pass using lapped traffic with one lap remaining.
"With one lap to go going down into turn seven I was about five car lengths back and we came into two L2 cars that were running side by side," Feinberg explained. "He tried to pass them on the left hand side going into turn seven. He hooked a wheel in the grass and put it straight into the wall."
Finishing third in round six was Charlie Shears who made an impressive run from last to third place.
"I was passing everyone on the back straight going into the chicane," Shears said of his race. "I was just hoping my brakes would last."
Eric Vassian took his first victory of the year in round six when he capitalized on Tom Drewer's misfortune. Drewer was leading on lap 20 when he went off track.
In round five Drewer dominated the Lites Two class taking his fifth victory of the season.
Chris Funk won both rounds at Lime Rock Park taking the point lead from KC Racing teammate Kelly Toombs.
The next two rounds of the IMSA Lites presented by Hankook series will take place August 22-24 at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario.
