IMSA Lites Series returns to action at American Le Mans New England Grand Prix
Lakeville, CT (June 29, 2006) - Drivers contesting the inaugural season of the IMSA Lites series will return to action at the challenging 1.54-mile eight-turn Lime Rock Park road course with a pair of 30-minute races on July 1.
Once again serving as a support race to the American Le Mans Series, a strong field of over 20 drivers will attempt to showcase their talent as they move up the endurance racing ladder. IMSA Lites features three classes of open-top sports racer prototypes called Lites 1, Lites 2, and Lites 3 with each varying slightly in performance. All three classes compete on the Hankook Ventus F200 racing slick.
Rising American star Adam Pecorari leads the L1 class by 10 points over Joel Feinberg after scoring three wins out of the first four events at Road Atlanta and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Cape Motorsports. Pecorari has proved all season that he's the man to beat, regularly setting lap times a remarkable several seconds faster than anyone else.
Meanwhile, in the L2 category, an intense points battle is taking place with the top five drivers separated by a mere five points. Series newcomer Dan McBreen swept both races at Mid-Ohio for PVM Racing after missing the first event of the season.
An equally impressive contest is also taking place in the L3 category after Richard Spicer stormed to two impressive wins in his debut IMSA Lites weekend at Mid-Ohio. However, Spicer will have to work hard if he hopes to rise from third place in the class point standings against the very consistent Robert Mumm and Johnny Meriggi.
In 2006 the IMSA Lites series will compete at premier tracks Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lime Rock Park, and Road America. Formula Motorsports' John Baytos manages the series, and the main mission of the series is to develop future drivers, teams, and especially fans for the American Le Mans Series.
