Marcelli Wins at Petite LeMans
(Braselton, Georgia) September 29th 2009 - As part of this past weekends 12th annual Petite LeMans the prestigious event held each year at Road Atlanta, rising Canadian racing car driver Kyle Marcelli took his second straight win in a row. Driving the number #37 car for Intersport Racing the Dublin, Ohio based team competing in the competitive American LeMans Series feeder, the IMSA Lites Championship.
The young star of Barrie, Ontario, Canada was the man to beat all weekend. Quickest through all pre-event testing Kyle suffered some handling issues in qualifying managing a 5th place starting position for race one of the double header weekend. Getting off the line great Marcelli quickly moved into 4th. Eagerly pushing lap after lap, the Intersport driver continued to overtake for position. With about 10 laps to go in the feature race Marcelli took the lead and never looked back. Marcelli crossed the stripe with the crew cheering over the wall as they took their second win in a row.
"Having missed four races in the championship our only goal was to win races and we have done just that. The past three race weekends we have left with a race win. It goes to show the 100% effort and dedication under the Intersport tent. It feels nice to reward the crew with race wins for there continued hard work." Said Kyle.
For race two of the weekend's double header Marcelli capitalized on his 4th place starting position to again be the driver to beat. Taking the lead early and driving away. With only seven minutes to go Marcelli had opened up about a three second lead. However to his disappointment it was soon to vanish. The rear tires overheated and blistered, it was all Marcelli could do to stay smooth and consistent however the laps times were just not there anymore eventually finishing the race P4.
"Today the temperature was just so much higher than yesterday, we made some minor changes to the car over night and it looked to be the wrong way. Once these tires blister you can never get them back, it's unfortunate as it could have been another win. However, the team did a great job." Said Marcelli
Although this weekend's events marked the final round of the IMSA lites Championship Kyle will be focused on some exciting up coming driving duties scheduled both overseas and within North America. Kyle and his team of people will also be very hard at work behind the desk looking at and discussing opportunities in preparation for 2010.
"After coming off successful weekends at New Jersey Motorsports Park and Mosport Int'l Raceway it was great to back it up with another win in Atlanta in support of the Petite LeMans. Kyle drove great all week and it was good to close out 2009 with yet another victory." Said Intersport Racing Team Manager Brian Alder.
