- Todd Parrott becomes crew chief for Dale Jarrett's Robert Yates Ford Thunderbird NASCAR Winston Cup stockcar (1995).

October 13 - Jaguar withdraws from all motor racing (1957).

- Of the 94 classic cars to start, 85 finish the second running of the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge (1997).

October 17 - First post-WWII race to be held at Monza, Italy, won by Jean-Pierre Wimille in an Alfa (1948).
