NASCAR stock car racer Charles Robert "Bobby" Hamilton, Sr., is
born (1957).

L.L. Corum and Joe Boyer become the first drivers to share an
Indianapolis 500 victory. Corum starts the race in his Duesenberg but is
replaced by Boyer on lap 110 after the Duesenberg Boyer started in suffers
supercharger problems. Alfred Moss, father of Stirling Moss, finishes 16th
(1924).
