Kenji Okazaki of Japan wins the Funny Car finals and 18 year old highschool girl Christen Powell wins the Top Fuel final at the NHRA Mopar Nationals in Englishtown, New Jersey, USA. First NHRA Nationals win for both (1997).

May 19
Jo Siffert and Vic Elford drive a Porsche 908 to victory in the 1000 km sports car race on the Nurburgring in Germany (1968).

Sports car racer Bob Grossman dies of multiple myeloma at age 79 (2002).
