March 16 - Phil Hill makes the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine, which rates him "Sportscar Driver of the Year" (1959).

March 18 - Volker Weidler born (1950).

- F1 racer Carlos Pace dies in a light plane crash in Brazil (1977).

March 19 - Jim Clark, driving a Lotus-Ford, wins a Formula Jr. race at Goodwood, England. John Surtees, in Ken Tyrrell's Cooper-BMC, is second. This is the first auto race that Surtees has ever seen (1960).

- F1 racer Nicola Larini born (1964).

March 20 - Gianpiero Moretti, sportscar racer and owner of Momo Corse, born (1940).

March 21 - Porsche 935 makes its race debut at Mugello, Italy (1976).
