Anthony Joseph "A.J." Foyt, 4-time Indianapolis 500 winner, is born in
Houston, Texas, USA (1935).
January 17
Juan Fangio wins the Argentine Grand Prix at Buenos Aires. First race of the
2.5-liter F1 formula. First win for a Maserati 250F (1954).
January 18
Manfred con Brauchitsch drives the Mercedes-Benz W25 Grand Prix car during its
first test runs, on the Autostrada between Milan and Varese in Italy (1934).
January 19
Stirling Moss wins the Argentine Grand Prix driving a Cooper. First F1 wins
for Cooper, a mid-engined F1 car, and team owner Rob Walker (1958).
January 20
Freddie Spencer, 2-time 500cc motorcycle Grand Prix World Champion, born in
Shreveport, Louisiana, USA (1962).

Mark Donohue drives an AMC Matador to victory in the NASCAR Winston Western
