Auto Racing Legends Inc. is sad to announce the passing of our First Vice President, George DeMatthews. George, a former midget race car driver and NASCAR Tech inspector passed away on Wednesday, December 26, at Bert Fish Memorial Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He was 88 years old.

George began his racing career in 1928 as a motorcycle racer. He went on to race automobiles with such notable associations as Garden State Auto Racing Association, AAA, URC, USAC, and Penn Jersey.

In the 1970's, George hung up his helmet and began working with NASCAR as a Tech Inspector. A Charter member of The ARL, George was presented the honor of ARL Legend Emeritus in February, 2001 and served as the club's First Vice President.

George is survived by his long time companion, Rebecca Klick and three brothers, Matthew, Louis, and Ralph. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced.
