Monday will mark the 18th anniversary of Team Rahal owner and interim CART CEO & President Bobby Rahal's first CART victory recorded on the shores of Lake Erie on July 4, 1982 when he won the inaugural Grand Prix of Cleveland. It would be the first of 24 Champ Car wins for Rahal, and it was notable that his first CART win came in his hometown of Cleveland, OH. Although he never again won the Grand Prix of Cleveland, Rahal managed to post six podium finishes, including five straight from 1987-91, and nine top-five results in 17 races on the tarmac of Burke Lakefront Airport. Qualifying on the course at Cleveland was a specialty of Rahal's. Seven-times Rahal qualified his car in the first two rows and he won the pole for the race in 1985.
