COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the second -oldest, consecutively run, auto race in the U.S., which was held on June 28th, 2003 will be aired in three seperate shows - one for the cars, one for the trucks and one for the cycles. It is subject to change and viewers are asked to check their local listings.
The 81st running can be seen on ESPN2 Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 11:00pm - 12am (EST) for the car show, Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 3:30pm - 4:00pm (EST), for the truck show and Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 4:00pm - 4:30pm (EST) for the cycle show.
The SCCA ProRally Championship will be shown on ESPN 2, Saturday, Aug. 23, 11:00 PM (EDT), as part of the network's coverage of the 81st "Run to the Clouds" at the Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The June 29 Hill Climb was round four of the 2003 SCCA ProRally Championship.
The Rally portion of the event will be shown as part of the entire field of 12 car and truck classes that competed on the part-pavement, part-dirt, 12.52-mile run to the summit. The Rally classes (Open, FIA Group N, and 2WD exhibition) left a very favorable impression at the event, with new class records being set in both Group N (Wolfgang Hoeck/Julie Lin) and the Open class (Mark Lovell/Roger Freeman). And even though his run in a 2003 Dodge SRT-4 was part of the 2WD exhibition, Doug Shepherd made a strong case for allowing 2WD cars to compete by posting a time faster than any of the Group N cars.
Because of the ESPN network's video coverage of the event, SCCA ProRally also received coverage in the August 4 issue of "ESPN: The Magazine," which featured a two-page layout on current Air Force Reserve Driver Tim O'Neil, co-driver Alex Gelsomino and O'Neil's 2002 Ford Focus at the Hill Climb.
The seventh round of the 2003 SCCA ProRally Championship is in action this weekend, Aug. 22-23, at the Ojibwe Forests Rally outside of Bemidji, Minn.
