Dallenbach Returns to take on International Field at Pikes Peak to Break 10-Minute Mark
Colorado Springs, CO - Paul Dallenbach, six-time Open Wheel Champion and three-time Overall Winner, will return to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this year to challenge an international field of drivers as they attempt to break elusive 10 minute barrier.
Paul drives the 98 Open Wheel car, the traditional race car on Pikes Peak. This year, to be positioned at the same time with the contenders and in an attempt to get more speed, Paul has move to the Unlimited Class. "We were at a disadvantage last year because the weather and course had changed so dramatically by the time the Open Wheel class was up," explains Dallenbach, "this year, we will run at the same time and under the same conditions as the other contenders." He takes on stiff competition from Nobuhiro Tajima of Japan and Rhys Millen of New Zealand. Dallenbach has been appearing at the PPIHC since the early 90s(1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2003-2009).
Testing on the mountain last weekend, Dallenbach felt confident in the car owned by Leonard Arnold of Greeley and managed by his Crew Chief, Kevin Kidwell. "The test on Pikes Peak went well for us. We found the right tire combo and gear set. Also with the PEAK performance products, Vapor Trails Racing, and Lucas products in the car, the car is much faster in a straight line, said Dallenbach, "We have zero overheating issues like in the past. That was our focus over the winter, making what we have better!"
Between the high altitude, demanding and changing weather conditions, insane bermed curves and the tacky asphalt and gravel course, The Race for the Clouds presents gritty conditions for even the most seasoned drivers. But that doesn't scare Paul. "You have to trust in your skills and your crew and believe in your car," says Dallenbach.
Paul's appearance this year at the PPIHC is made possible through his generous sponsors: Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que, Rock Valley Oil, PEAK Performance, Nature's Absorbent and the Double Eagle Casino in Cripple Creek. Additional sponsors include Susan Lingo Books, Black Tie Ski Rentals and BURRIS Optics. "We are fortunate to have sponsors who are so generous and into racing, actively participating in our race preparation," remarks Dallenbach, "It is great to have them as partners."
Lucas Oil, Leary, Vapor Trails and Sunoco Fuel have also contributed significantly to the Dallenbach entries this year. "We are looking forward to another exciting race up the mountain."
