United Autosports have scored their fourth consecutive podium at the City of Dreams Macau GT Cup.

Danny Watts brought the McLaren home in second place and Richard Meins finished the race in sixth, continuing the team’s 100% record of finishing on the podium at the international event.

Both drivers drove a stunning race round the notorious street circuit at what was the 60th running of the Macau Grand Prix. Danny made his way through from a qualifying position of eighth, as he managed to make up places while others were fighting amongst themselves.

Richard stormed his way through the field from a 20th place qualifying spot to 11th on the first lap alone as the safety car was deployed to rescue a Porsche that had hit the wall. As the safety car came in he made up a further two places to ninth, then fought his way through to a finishing spot of sixth.

It is also a great result for the Gulf Marine and Noble Group sponsored McLaren MP4-12C GT3 car having both cars finishing in the top six.

Danny Watts, Driver, United Autosports: “I am absolutely delighted. We had a good warm up session this morning just to shakedown the car and make sure everything was fine, and it was. For the race, I had a decent start, it was always going to be hard on the outside not to get shoved out wide, but I managed to tuck in and make up places when people were fighting.

The car was really consistent throughout the whole race and it was easy to drive and I could stay close enough to those in front to be able to keep the pressure on. To come here, starting P8 and finishing second, I’m absolutely delighted.”

Richard Meins, Driver, United Autosports: “What a fantastic race. We exceeded our expectations in such a strong field, starting 20th and to finish in sixth. I had a great start and managed to make up a number of places on the run to Lisboa, after lap one I had made up 9 places after the safety car came in and I settled into a really good rhythm and managed to make up some more places on the run to the flag - it really felt good and did not want it to end!

A huge well done to all the team, they did a great job all weekend. It was my 13th Macau and I have said to myself as long as I am faster each year then I will return – so we will be back next year to try and do more of the same.”

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports: “We are so pleased with the results today. To have two cars in the top 6 at such a difficult circuit is a great achievement. Danny’s second place is our fourth podium in four years of competing so we are really happy with our consistency and hopefully we can come back next year and get that elusive top spot. I’d like to say a huge thanks to all our sponsors and Gulf Marine and the Noble Group who made it all possible.”
